Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to making campaign technology accessible to everyone.

Our Commitment

RidingDesk is committed to building digital tools that work for people of all abilities. We design and develop with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard as our target. We are a small team and have not yet achieved full conformance everywhere — the “Known Limitations” section below lists the gaps we are aware of and working to close.

Accessible Campaign Technology

Democratic participation is a fundamental right. Campaign technology must be accessible to all candidates, volunteers, and staff — regardless of ability. When campaign tools are inaccessible, they create barriers that exclude people from the democratic process. At RidingDesk, we believe that building accessible software is not optional — it is essential to fair and inclusive elections.

Volunteers with visual impairments should be able to make phone banking calls. Candidates who rely on keyboard navigation should be able to review their canvassing data. Campaign managers using screen readers should have full access to analytics dashboards. We design and build with these realities in mind.

Measures We Have Taken

The following practices guide how we build RidingDesk:

  • Semantic HTML

Pages use semantic HTML5 elements — headings, landmarks, lists, and labelled form controls — so content structure is meaningful to screen readers and search engines.

  • ARIA Labels & Roles

Interactive components include ARIA attributes to convey state, purpose, and relationships to assistive technologies. Coverage is improving as we audit each module.

  • Keyboard Navigation

Forms, dialogs, menus, and tables are designed for keyboard operation. Map-based features (canvassing, GOTV, lawn signs) are a known exception we are working to address — see the limitations below.

  • Screen Reader Support

We test with VoiceOver during development. We have not yet completed comprehensive testing with NVDA or JAWS; if you encounter issues with any screen reader, please tell us.

  • Colour Contrast

Our colour palette is chosen to meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast targets (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and UI components) in the core platform. We continue to review every screen.

  • Focus Indicators

Focusable elements use the browser’s default focus styles or our own high-contrast focus rings. We are auditing custom components to ensure no focus indicator is suppressed.

  • Responsive Design

The platform adapts to all common screen sizes and supports browser text resizing up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full compliance, the following areas have known limitations that we are actively working to resolve:

  • Map-based visualisations: Interactive riding maps used in canvassing and GOTV modules have limited screen reader support. We are implementing text-based alternatives and data tables as fallbacks.Target remediation: Q3 2026
  • PDF report exports: Some exported PDF reports may not be fully tagged for accessibility. We are migrating to accessible PDF generation.Target remediation: Q2 2026
  • Legacy data import wizards: Older CSV import flows are being rebuilt with improved keyboard navigation and error messaging.Target remediation: Q2 2026

Canadian Accessibility Law References

RidingDesk is designed to comply with Canadian federal and provincial accessibility legislation, including:

  • Accessible Canada Act (ACA): Federal legislation (Bill C-81) that aims to create a barrier-free Canada by 2040. As a technology provider serving federally regulated activities, we align our practices with ACA requirements for information and communication technologies.
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA): Ontario's accessibility legislation requires organizations to meet the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR), including WCAG 2.0 Level AA for web content. We design RidingDesk with these requirements in mind and are working toward full conformance.
  • Provincial equivalents: We monitor and comply with accessibility requirements in all Canadian provinces and territories where our users operate campaigns.
